Camping Adventure II

Well, all done as of today... to those who were still wondering about the hockey game dilemma, I went and watched the game at Casey's, and then had a very wet and dark walk out to my tent. It would have been easier with my spirits buoyed by a Stanley Cup victory by a Canadian team, but oh well.

Final thoughts on my living in a tent experience...

Flat ground is very important.
Some things keep better than others... bananas? good. yogourt? not so much...
It's ok that the most exciting wildlife I saw was a beaver... at least I didn't get eaten.
The night security guard lady is nice.

Well, that's about it... Thanks for tuning in!

Wow, three nights left, and I have a dilemma on my hands... I hear there's a somewhat important hockey game tonight, and it's going to be awfully tough to get out to my tent after it ends, however, I'd hate to spend only one of my last three nights in my tent (Wednesday night is Moose night). If anyone still reads this blog, vote with your comments. Ha!

Camping is too easy when it's summer. Makes for a boring blog. Wait 'til the fall when I'm blogging my teaching adventure in Pikangikum, ON.

Hello! I'm sorry this blog is more boring than the last one... I went on quite an adventure yesterday in the woods around my campsite. I'll have to take a picture of the cliff I climbed in snowshoes in the winter - it's pretty impressive. That's all...

One more note - I've finally put a note on my tent telling people how to get ahold of me if they want to arrest me...

Well, the title of this blog is no longer incredibly accurate - I caved to a desire to actually get some school work done and hence will be camping on campus again. I'm back at the former site, and now the only challenge is to stay there until next Thursday (the 22nd) without getting arrested or removed again. I may scout new, more remote sites as well, as the lack of snow really exposed to me just how... umm... exposed my new/old site is.

Alright - I should be headed there right now, as I have a long day of finishing all of my Special Ed. assignments ahead of me tomorrow!

Day 2, and my legs are as itchy as they ever have been...

No problems with deer flies last night - I didn't get out to the tent until dusk! I did suffer a little bit from black flies, but mostly after I brought 20 or so of them into the tent with me.

On the plus side, there's nothing quite like swimming in a river which is flat as glass at dawn...

After school yesterday I went back to my campsite from March (check out www.survivorschwindt.blogspot.com for background) and it's not nearly as scary as I thought - I expected to find out that I had been camping in the middle of a bush on the side of a hill, but as it turns out, it's actually quite nice! In fact, I'm thinking I may keep it as a back up in case I tire of canoe commuting...

Tonight's a night of relative luxury, staying with friends in order to be well-rested and on time for my graduation tomorrow; after that I'm off to camp somewhere else for the weekend...

Welcome! Last night was my first night of my latest and greatest camping adventure... While attending a Special Education course at Nipissing University I will be camping on the Mattawa River, and apparently, donating a lot of blood to the local deer fly population.

I'm hoping to camp for three weeks, aside from one of the weekends. My commute every morning and afternoon is about an hour; 1/2 an hour driving, and 1/2 an hour by canoe, longer if I have to stop and fish!

Here are some pictures of my new neighbourhood...
